As her presence as an artiste grew, she also started to gain influence as a fashion leader, and started various trends while in her early 20’s. Even that holds some unexpected stories from the busy star.

“There was a period of time when huge sunglasses became my trademark, but that didn’t start as a fashion statement. I started wearing them because I wanted to hide my face as much as possible. Because of work, I had to change hair and make-up styles several times in one day, so the condition of my skin and hair deteriorated. The sudden change to short hair was also a last resort due to that. (laugh) Personally, the trends which I still follow today are Kitty-chan and candles. When I’m travelling, being surrounded by a favourite scent helps me to settle down comfortably. Kitty-chan is a personal obsession. It’s just brilliant how even a change in the position of her ribbon adds a sense of freshness which I never get enough of. I think that she’s a character who resembles Hamasaki Ayumi, so I feel a sense of closeness to her, and I get excited every time she releases something new!”

Hamasaki Ayumi uploads backstage shots of herself with AAA member at “a-nation”

On 1 September, artiste Hamasaki Ayumi uploaded twin photos of herself and 7-member entertainment group AAA’s Urata Naoya.

Both Hamasaki and AAA were performers at the finale show for “a-nation stadium fes. 2013” at Tokyo, Ajinomoto Stadium. On her Twitter account, Hamasaki wrote about her thoughts regarding AAA’s live performance, “Watched AAA’s opening show-! Everyone got so high-“, and added that “I got high too-!”. Furthermore, she uploaded a twin photo of herself and Urata backstage at “a-nation”, with the comment “Next, I took a photo with little bro-“.

She also uploaded another photo of herself wearing AAA’s merchandise with the following comment, “AAA cap and T-shirt I got from little bro”, happily asserting that “I’ll go home wearing these today ♪”.

Urata was a guest vocalist at Hamasaki’s show during “a-nation” in 2011. Currently, Hamasaki refers to Urata as her “little bro”, and the two seem to share an intimate sibling-like relationship.

50,000 fans at a-nation; Koda Kumi’s comeback after 2 years & bare-legged ayu in yukata
2 September 2013.

The outdoor music event “a-nation stadium fes.” organized by avex played its finale show on 1 September at Tokyo city’s Ajinomoto Stadium. About 55,000 fans made their way to enjoy the performances of 8 of the best artistes.

Koda Kumi (30) energetically greeted the crowd with “I went on a break after giving birth to my boy, but after 2 years, I’m back at a-nation!!”. Taking off her T-shirt after the first song, she transformed into a bikini-clad sexy woman. Shaking her chest in time to the drums, she gave a powerful performance of “Butterfly”, “BE MY BABY” and more.

Halfway through, the former program publicity talent Watanabe Naomi (25) came on stage, mimicking Koda as she sang “Ai no uta”. Koda replied with a wry smile, “what should I do? She sings much better than me”.

Other artistes also made their appearance, including Korean group SHINee, Kishidan, m-flo and May J. The show closer was Hamasaki Ayumi (34), this being her 12th time performing at a-nation.

Hamasaki performed 8 songs, including “TO BE” and “HANABI”. Dressed in a yukata, she also travelled in a circle around the arena seats. She ended off with the following speech, “It’s been a hotter summer this year than usual, but we managed to create some awesome memories. Thank you.”
